Utilizing Consultants for Unique Projects & Short-Term Needs

Updated: Apr 9, 2023

Please just stop. Consider this...

Organizations that bring on people as FTEs without a clear plan/commitment on how to develop and leverage that talent long term, should come up with a new strategy.

If you have a shorter-term need or a unique project, go with contractors/consultants. Why?

  1. You can hire the specific skills, people, etc. that you need.

  2. There is clearly a beginning and end to the engagement (and if you need to extend, that is always an option). Or, if you if you were building a new product or service offering, you're able to wait until you have confirmed traction before you hire FTEs. (And have your contractors develop the business process documentation and train new employees)

  3. New hires take longer to 'onboard.' Because you're onboarding them to the organization, their manager, and their team. All of that takes time.

  4. You save the reputation of your firm by not laying people off.

There is nothing worse than poor business decisions leading to impacting people's lives. That's a reputation you don't want in this tight labor market.

I know so many talented contractors in every area of function and industry. Let me know if I can help you connect with the right one for your project.
