I'm fine....
It's almost an automatic response anymore when someone asks how we're doing.
I'm fine.
Let's break down our definition of fine when we answer that way:
Every day feels the same.
I'm under pressure, but I've got this, I'll just work harder.
If I just get to Friday, I'll be ok.
I'm not ok, but that's not what they want to hear.
If I just lean into this more, I'll be ok.
Life is hard right now.
I could use a break.
I could use some help.
You know what the definition of fine is?
All Right
Well or Healthy
So, let's just dump the question, "How are you?"
Try this on, instead:
What two feelings are you feeling right now?
What's on your mind in this moment?
How can I support you today?
This will take some practice, even for me. "How are you doing?" is another "Hi" for us. So automatic. Be intentional when you're with someone today. Change it up. See what unfolds.
By the way, I want to ask YOU, "How can I support you today?"
