Why Hire an Independent Consultant

Final Day! Answering questions I often get about what I do:

Q: Why would I hire an independent consultant, like you, over a larger firm?

A: Cost/Focus/Experience

Cost - As an independent, I don't have a lot of overhead to cover. Therefore, I can keep my rates competitive. If I worked at a larger consulting firm, you would pay double my rate based on my experience and credentials, just to cover the additional costs (employees, marketing, technology, buildings, etc.) that a larger firm has to cover.

That doesn't mean I can't get additional support, if needed, for your project - I have a whole network of talented and proven independent consultants I can bring on if reinforcements are needed. That allows me to pay for the specific expertise needed, when I need it.

As a small business owner, my income stays and supports my family and my local community.

Focus - Guess what I don't have to do as an independent? All of that distracting and time-consuming administrative work required at larger firms - time entry, employee performance matters, performance evaluations, recruitments, multiple billings due to volume of clients, etc.

When I work with you, I'm working with you. I eat, sleep, and think about ways to deliver better value and impact on our project together. You have my undivided attention.

How do I get the little bit of administrative work I have, done? I contract with a dedicated Virtual Assistant. (at a fraction of the cost of a full-time dedicated employee)

Experience - When a larger consulting firm pitches you to work with them, they'll bring in their most experienced staff to sell you. (usually with a "principal" or "partner" title) You are one of many clients to them and they will do very little work on your project. They bring in the clients and hand it down the line.

When you hire me, you hire me. My name is my company name for a reason. With over 3 decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, I have the proven capabilities to add tremendous value to your organization.

I hope my posts this week have answered questions you may have had about what I do and who I work with. If I missed anything, please reach out.

I would love to add you as a client, if it makes sense. (I don't take on projects just to have work - it needs to be the right client and project for my background and experience. I will tell you if I'm not the right fit.)

Like what you have read this week? Reach out - let's see if what is keeping you up at night is something I can help you with.
