I'm going to really date myself on this one.
In kindergarten, we had chalkboards (not dry erase boards).
By the end of the day, there was so much chalk dust on them they were cloudy, remnants of all of the lessons taught that day.
When we would arrive to school the next day, all of the chalk dust was gone. The board was a perfect pure black (from being wiped down the night before).
I honestly don't know which I preferred:
The board with the chalk dust on it, demonstrating how much we did and learned the day before, ready to take on more work, not having to worry about making the first mark, or...
The board that was pristine, all set for the new day and the new lessons, a blank slate if you will, ready for ideas and creativity.
And if I fast forward to today, I would say I feel the same way.
Some days it is nice, walking into my office, picking up where I left off, continuing working on a project, building on what I accomplished the day before.
And on other days, I'm excited that I can start something new. Something fresh, with the anticipation of what it may be.
Today? I'm walking into a clean chalkboard. Ready to create something new.
What does your day look like? Is your chalkboard cloudy or clean?
(sigh) And for those of you who don't know what a chalkboard is, I encourage you to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off - "Anyone? Anyone?" Ferris' teacher is writing on the chalkboard, teaching a lesson -- a classic 80's movie.
