If you have ever watched 5-year-olds playing a game of t-ball, you know exactly what happens. There are a bunch of kids in the outfield and no matter where that ball is hit, everyone, and I mean everyone, runs for the ball.
When I work with organizations on process improvement, that is one of the things I'm looking for. Is everyone chasing the same ball or do people know the part they play? Do they have adequate training? Where are there slowdowns?
Because everyone chasing the same ball takes a lot of energy, productivity stops, and delays happen.
When is the last time you looked at your processes to reduce waste and variation? As someone certified in Lean Six Sigma, I know that 'more' isn't always 'better.'
And btw, shout out to all of those t-ball coaches out there. You have patience in spades!
