Squashing Executive Coaching Myths & Misconceptions

There are myths and misconceptions floating around about executive coaching. I'm here to debunk them, one at a time. I'm a straight-talker and want you to enter 2023 with the facts. Let's go!

  • "Coaches tell you what to do, and then you do it." Nope. There is a huge difference between coaching and consulting, or mentoring. As a coach, I'm not there to give you advice or directives on the best course of action to take. I like to think of it as we're on a path together, and I'm there to provide clarity and support to help you find your own answers.

  • "Coaches are only for people with performance issues." Not true! Everyone can benefit from having a coach. I like to think of it as "medicine for the soul"— medicine that can provide clarity for many of the aspects of your life.

  • "Anyone can be a coach." Now, c'mon...this one hurts! All kidding aside — yes, anyone can train or learn to be a coach, or use coaching skills. However, not everyone has the patience or desire to do it well. And when you're working at the executive level, patience and excellence are critical.
